CNN just announced Sen. Barack Obama is ahead nationally by popular vote, with 52 percent of the vote.
Few AU students reacted to the results, as many appear to be overwhelmed by the amount of activity in the Tavern. Reporters from ATV are in one corner and the AU bookstore is selling memorabilia for both candidates nearby. The room is packed with students and members of the AU community, some grouped by the candidate whom they support. In addition to watching the coverage on the large projector, AU students said they are using laptops to keep track of the results.
One AU student said she was using her laptop to look at the election map. Another said she was just talking to her friends to pass the time. As the election results are announced, students can chow down on nachos and mini hot dogs, provided by the Kennedy Political Union, although the line for free food is long.
Student reporters from the German news station ZDF are also drifting throughout the crowd, interviewing students and filming the proceedings.
